Before coming to Calvert Academy, Alexis Bailey worked as a dually certified elementary and special education instructor who taught in various types of inclusion classrooms. That experience helps her daily as an elementary teacher at Calvert Academy.
“My expertise in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of my students, who possess varied learning abilities and learning styles, provides me with the ability to help every child succeed by meeting them at their personal ability level using methods that will help them succeed according to their individual learning styles,” she said.
Born and raised in Delaware, she spent her childhood riding her bike, taking family vacations to the beach, playing field hockey and softball, swimming, eating family dinners together, and watching University of Delaware football games.
“I still call Delaware home,” she said. “I love it so much that I’ve never left! I live with my husband and three sons who keep me busy with sports, activities, and traveling. When I’m not on the go with my family, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and walking our two dogs.”
MORE ABOUT MRS. BAILEY
Favorites: I rarely find a book I do not love, but my favorite book that helped me fall in love with reading as a child was The Secret Garden. I love listening to anything by the Dave Matthews Band, snacking on gummy bears, swinging on my front porch, and watching sports live or on TV every season.
Three words to describe herself: Helpful, funny, cheerful
Alternative career choice: I’d love to be a nature photographer, traveling the world taking pictures of amazing destinations and exotic animals.
Most treasured possession: My family and the millions of photographs of our life together
Bucket list item: Skydiving
Person she’d most like to meet: I’d love to meet Oprah Winfrey. She’s such an amazing person who has worked hard for her success and stays true to herself, constantly seeking to learn and grow. She values teachers and education and is a voracious reader, like me!
