Refresh English concepts with Basic English! This remedial course continues to build on the sequential development and integration of communication skills in four major areas, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Preparing high schoolers for upper-level English courses, this academy course includes reinforcement practices to build comprehension skills. Students build grammar by studying sentence structure, parts of speech, etymology, and word structure.
Additional lessons include recognizing text meaning and an introduction to Old and Middle English literature. Analyzing forms of writing and spelling words are located throughout this course. Projects include writing business letters, informal essays, and basic literature analysis. Oral reports, listening comprehension, and note taking skills are also briefly discussed in this course from our online academy. Each unit of the course from our online academy contains quizzes and tests to evaluate progress and student mastery.
Additional Details
Students can earn an elective credit by taking Basic English, but since it is not a college preparatory course, it does not count toward the English requirement of the college prep track.
