Legal Services is a high school semester-long course that provides students with an overview of the system of laws in the United States, the practice areas, and career options in the field. Students learn about how the legal system operates, the consequences to those who commit crimes, and how disputes are settled, as well as how criminal and civil cases reach court and are resolved.
Students also learn about the courtroom and the basics of a typical court case. In addition, students explore constitutional rights and legal safeguards, types of evidence, as well as how technology has changed the practice of law. Finally, students learn about legal education and various careers in the legal field.
