History and Geography Course for Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Course Length
1 Semester
Travel to the front lines! This American history elective for grades 9-12 examines one of the most crucial turning points in American history – the U.S. Civil War. This one-semester online academy history course describes the major points of contention between the North and the South, including differing viewpoints on slavery. Lessons examine why a clash in culture and beliefs led to the South's secession and the start of the U.S. Civil War.
Students study the lives of key figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee, the leaders of the North and South, and gain a glimpse into the daily life of a soldier. Examining pivotal battles and troop movements, students gain an understanding of the importance of war strategy. The course also considers the aftermath of the war, including the Reconstruction Era. Each unit of the course contains quizzes and a test to evaluate progress and student mastery. Projects are included.
