Before joining Calvert Academy, Jeff Johnsen was a first and second grade teacher within the district that his family lives. What he enjoys most about elementary education is setting young minds up for great success as they enter middle and high school, as well as developing great relationships where students, families, and teachers work together to achieve high goals.
“I enjoy interacting with students within the curriculum and talking with them about life skills beyond the daily curriculum,” he said. “When I get to know students and we have meaningful conversations is when I am most fulfilled.”
Mr. Johnsen was born in Valley City, North Dakota, a town of 7,000 people. Both he and his two sisters were active in athletics within our school. During the summer months, he spent a lot of time on the golf course, either playing golf or working in the pro shop. Today, he lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with his wife and their three children. He still enjoys playing golf, and he is the head coach of the girls’ golf team at the high school in his district.
MORE ABOUT MR. JOHNSEN
Favorites: Some of my favorite foods are burgers, wings, pizza, pasta, and fish. I like to keep it simple. I read all of Matt Christopher’s books as a kid and now I like to read coaching biographies. I love watching movies with my family and the Rocky movies are my all-time favorites. I coach youth basketball and golf, and those are my favorite sports to watch and play.
Three words to describe himself: Organized, attentive, and caring
Alternative career choice: Architect
Most treasured possession: I think beyond my family, my most treasured possession would be my Traeger Smoker grill. I love to spend time grilling for my family and friends.
Bucket list item: I would love to attend The Masters Tournament someday in Georgia.
Person he’d most like to meet: Kirby Puckett. Kirby was my favorite baseball player when I was a child. He had a determination to succeed and work hard every day.
Unknown gem: An unusual job for me in the past was that I was a stay-at-home dad from the day my wife and I had twins (one boy and one girl). I loved spending so much time with them and watching them grow.
