Michelle Halsey has over 15 years of teaching experience from 2nd grade through college English, and she currently serves as a 5th grade teacher at Calvert Academy. A native of Delaware, she grew up with three brothers and one sister. She is the daughter of an English teacher and a French teacher who met while teaching at a middle school. Today, she lives in Arizona with her husband and cat, where she loves reading, exercising, and traveling to the beach. She also enjoys visiting with her son, Alex, who lives in Washington state and returning to Virginia each year to spend time with her family and friends.

Favorites: My favorite foods include coffee ice cream, crab cakes, scallops, and Greek food. I have so many favorite books, but my top authors include John Keats, Jayne Ann Krentz, Judy Blume, and Sharon Creech. I love classic rock. My favorite sports include swimming, hockey, and baseball.

Alternative career choice: I have always wanted to be a fashion designer.
Most treasured possession: My husband of more than 30 years
Bucket list item: Visiting Greece and Australia to see my sister
Person she’d most like to meet: I would like to meet Alison Krauss and the Union Station whom I had the chance to meet at an outdoor concert with Bruce Hornsby. Due to a severe storm, I left before Alison Krauss got on stage.
Unknown gem: Before teaching, I worked in fashion and was also a lactation consultant in Nebraska and North Carolina.
