As a middle school and high school social studies teacher at Calvert Academy, Angela Soister believes that teaching is all about serving others. That’s a valuable lesson she’s learned over the years from experience in the classroom and as a waitress.
“The aspect of my workday I enjoy the most is interacting with students, even if it is through typed messages,” she said. “I feel fulfilled when I can encourage and help students.”
Born in Denver and raised in Peoria, Illinois, she said her childhood was straight from the movies, running all day long with friends and being sure to be within range of her mother’s whistle around dark. Today, she now enjoys being a mother of two children, reading books, and loving animals.
MORE ABOUT MRS. SOISTER
Favorites: Spicy food, particularly Mexican or Indian food. I really do not have a favorite movie, but a couple good ones are While You Were Sleeping and I Can Only Imagine. I love CrossFit.
Three words to describe herself: Christian, mother, and friend
Alternative career choice: Fitness trainer
Most treasured possession: My Bible
Bucket list item: Trying to run a full marathon
Person she’d most like to meet: I would love to meet Abraham Lincoln because I believe he was a truly God-fearing man (though flawed as we all are) who changed the course of history toward righteousness.
Unknown gem: I am fluent in American Sign Language because my parents have always worked with the deaf. I was signing before I was talking. I also did a 10-year stint working for a Mexican restaurant, and I picked up quite a bit of Spanish.
